How to make a puff mobile by Vicky

You will need:

A buddy
paper
straws
Any circle lollies that have a hole in the centre (lifesavers)
tape

What you need to do:

Get a piece of paper, any design.
Cut one straw in half and put it under the design.
Put the lollies on the straw.
Get the tape and fold it a little and put it on the straw.
Get another straw and blow.

And that's how you make one!

Some of the puff mobiles go slow and some go fast.
If you did it, would yours have wheels?

My First time making a puff mobile by Miki

It is really interesting.  At the start, we got buddies to work with.  I had Jackie-Mae.  First we needed to make puff mobiles out of paper!  Only paper!  I thought it was going to be hard, but it wasn't.  I thought of a way to do it.  it was origami!  I was proud of myself that day.  Then me and my buddy made a swan.  We named it Mr Swan.  Then we raced them.  We went 2.85metres long!  When we had finished, we had lunch and the swan was on my table.  the next day, we raced them again.

The amazing puff mobiles by Ethan

On the 28th of   February, the class made some puff mobiles.  Puff mobiles are like a boat but you have to design them by yourself, with a partner.  It had to move on the ground and you could only blow it 9 times.  We got lollies for wheels.  After we finished, I ate the lollies by myself.

Today in Room 12 we made puff mobiles.  My other person was Ethan.  We had to use one straw and one piece of paper.  Ethan was making the model.  I had no idea what he was doing!  Then we tested them on the mat.  We got 3.53 metres!

My Puff Mobile by Danielle

Hi, My name is Danielle.  Yesterday me and my partner Jordyn made a puff mobile.  We were only allowed two pieces of paper, three straws, two paper clips and half a metre of sellotape and four lollies (life savers).  After getting all of that, we were off to work.

I started to make the back of it, and Jordyn started to make the top.  He took two straws and stuck them together to make a cross and I made two triangles and folded the pointy sides.  We put the paper clips on the straws and last of all to put it together, we used the sticky tape.  We didn't need the lifesavers, so we had two each and "CruncH!"  All gone!

We now have to try it out.  We are only allowed 9 blows.

"It works perfectly" I yelled!

This week, Room 12 has been working on Puff Mobiles during maths.  Me and my partner Masiah made one using: lollies for wheels, straws for axles and paper for the body.  You also get a small supply of tape.  After that, of course we raced them.  We were first up and ours went 10.42 metres.  I highly recommend it because it is really fun!!!

Making Puff Mobiles

Today we made puff mobiles.  The challenge was to design a vehicle that would travel the furthest in 9 puffs.  For the first challenge we had an A4 piece of paper and a straw.  We were not allowed to use anything else (even scissors)  Katie and Katie and Callum won that challenge with their box shaped model making it the full 9 metre length of the room.

What were we learning?

Teamwork, measurement, science and technology, design principles and how to blow really hard.

What we noticed was that the designs that went the furthest generally had a sail or side for the air to push against.
