Capital E Children’s Arts Festival

Wow, What a fabulous day we had last Tuesday.  We caught the bus into Wellington and then saw three fantastic shows.  The first show  was Sky Dancer

A young girl named Skylark becomes embroiled in a prophecy which sees her embark on an extraordinary journey, a dazzling trip into the past to save our future. Capital E National Theatre for Children and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra present a symphonic work composed by Gareth Farr specifically for a young audience. Myth transforms into a legendary performance, inspired by Witi Ihimaera’s novel Sky Dancer. This new work shows off the full orchestral sound in all its glory. Let your imagination take flight while puppets, projections and performers complete the epic visual staging. Sky Dancer is the perfect introduction to classical music.

Our next show was Down Beneath, Below about sub Antarctic animals.  There was hip hop, crumping, skating, juggling and more.  Outrageous!
Come on a big adventure to icy lands downunder. Join urban misfit movers who hip and hop and crump and shake on a journey to the bottom of the world. Meet wild creatures and magic places as our heroes dive right down beneath below.

Java Dance takes us on an icy journey inspired by Our Far South, a Morgan Foundation project aimed at raising New Zealanders' awareness of the area south of Stewart Island.

Lastly, we went to a clowning show about the Arctic.  It was funny!  Especially the dog…….
Some days a quiet picnic on a melting ice floe is not as straightforward as it seems. With a creak, a crunch and a splash, the best-laid plans can be cut adrift and a man can only surrender to the deep ebb and flow of daydreams, memories and magic...
Spoontree Productions presents The Man the Sea Saw, wrapped in a dazzling set that unfolds like a surreal pop-up book. This tender, touching adventure finds the calm harbour between acrobatic suspense, extreme hilarity and poignant themes of family, loss and love.

I wish we could go again!
