Planning for clay animation movies
We have started writing narrative stories in class. To help us with this we are going to make some clay animation movies. Our first movies are going to be very short. The children have made a six picture plan for their story. Next they have painted the setting and finally made the characters from plasticine. We have had a huge amount of fun and learning with this. Not all of our movies were completed before the term finished but it gives us something to look forward to. I am so impressed with the model making skills of the children and their rapid grasp of the idea. They will be the experts in no time.

Bridget Riley the artist. Is she an innovator?
Here are some images from Bridget Riley. Many of her works make optical illusions? Can you think of any other artists who make optical illusions in their art. Name one other and enter the Room 12 Friday draw.

Room 12’s favourite pets
We have been using the ‘Figure it Out” books in maths. We surveyed the class to find out our favourite pets. From these tally charts we made a strip graph.
We used the strip graph to make a pie chart and also a bar chart. Finally we looked at what the data told us and each group made statements about their graph.
Here is our final work which we have on the wall of the classroom.
Cricket in the last of the summer weather
We have been very fortunate to have New Zealand's only international woman cricket umpire come to visit our kura. Kathy Cross spent a morning with Room 12 and Room 2 last week teaching us some of the basics of cricket. What a wonderful day we all had. You can tell by the smiles on our faces.
