Squid dissection with Room 13

Last Friday Whaea Diana allowed Room Six to come and visit during their squid dissection.  It was awesome as we got to see all the external and internal features and organs of the arrowhead squid.  Check out these fantastic photos of our amazing morning

We looked at the squids beak and later we popped them out of the squid.

Next we cut open the mantle and began to look at the internal anatomy.

The eyes were pretty amazing, little clear balls. Can you find them in the photos?


Here is the pen which is the last remaining part of a shell that squid once had.  The children used this and the ink from the ink sac to write their names.  You can tell from the photos how engaged the children all were.  Amazing learning.  Thanks Room 13.  Room Six had a wonderful day!

What an Awesome week Room Six has had!

Well, it has been so busy in Room Six.  We have been learning to roll newspaper for our technology challenge, been to the Ned show which was AMAZING, had the SPCA visit and talk to us about looking after animals and then we got to visit Room 13 when they were dissecting arrowhead squid.  When I asked the children what was the best thing they had done this week, many of them said it was dissecting the squid.  It was certainly Mrs C's best thing of the week.
